Searching for the Missed Mystery of Life: The Silent Metamorphosis belongs to a pivotal phase in Abu Naser Robii’s printmaking practice, where he explored the invisible relationships between human consciousness, transformation, morality, nature, and the cosmos.

Created in 2010 as a limited edition linocut print, the composition combines symbolic human figures, the crescent moon, serpents, roots, celestial space, and organic structures into a layered visual language. Rather than illustrating a specific narrative, the work reflects the quiet processes through which identity, memory, and consciousness continuously evolve.

The crescent moon appears as one of the artist’s recurring symbols, representing the subtle rhythms through which celestial cycles influence both nature and human life. Serpents embody transformation, instinct, renewal, and the dynamic tension between opposing forces within human consciousness. The tree-like vascular structures growing through the human body reinforce the artist’s enduring belief that humanity and nature are inseparable expressions of the same living universe.

Through the high contrast of black and white, the work emphasizes the coexistence of presence and absence, light and darkness, certainty and mystery, inviting viewers to contemplate the unseen dimensions of existence.

Historical Significance

This print was produced during the same period in which the artist created a monumental 3.5 × 7 ft linocut print.

Two versions of that large-scale work received the Best Printmaking Award at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Biennale Young Artists Exhibition, and one edition is now part of the Grameenphone Corporate Art Collection in Bangladesh.

This limited edition print therefore represents an important chapter in the evolution of the artist’s symbolic visual language and printmaking practice.

Artist’s Statement

Printmaking has always been more than a reproductive medium for me.

The physical act of carving into a surface mirrors the way experience carves into human consciousness. Every incision permanently alters the matrix, just as every experience leaves an irreversible mark on our inner lives.

In this work I investigate the silent processes through which human identity is transformed. The moon, serpents, roots, and celestial space are not decorative elements but symbolic manifestations of recurring cycles of growth, intuition, ethical awareness, and renewal.

For me, the mystery of existence lies not in dramatic events but in the invisible transformations unfolding quietly beneath the surface of everyday life.
