Artist’s Statement
This print explores the idea that the brightest light does not come from outside the human being, but from within.
The illuminated head symbolizes awakened consciousness, while the serpents express the opposing yet complementary forces that accompany personal transformation. Throughout many cultures, serpents embody fear and wisdom, destruction and renewal. In my work they become guardians of inner evolution rather than symbols of conflict.
The tree-like body reflects my belief that human life is deeply rooted in nature, even as our thoughts reach toward the infinite universe.
For me, this print is a meditation on the quiet protection offered by conscience, intuition, and the invisible energies that shape our lives.
Historical Context
This print belongs to the artist’s important 2010 linocut period, during which he produced several symbolic print series exploring human consciousness and cosmic relationships.
During the same period, Robii created a monumental 3.5 × 7 ft linocut print, two versions of which received the Best Printmaking Award at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Biennale Young Artists Exhibition. One impression is now preserved in the Grameenphone Corporate Art Collection in Bangladesh.
