Artwork Description

Searching for the Missed Mystery of Life: Inner Cosmos continues Abu Naser Robii’s long-term exploration of the invisible relationships between human consciousness, morality, nature, and the universe.

Painted in 2018 using professional archival-quality watercolour on archival paper, the composition presents a luminous human figure standing upon a cloud-like form while carrying the Earth within its body. Unlike conventional representations where the universe surrounds humanity, this painting suggests that the cosmos also exists within us.

Flowers blossom inside the transparent body, symbolising the continuous growth of life and consciousness. Above the figure appears a radiant winged symbolic being whose presence evokes protection, guidance, and moral awakening. Inspired by the symbolic language of Islamic culture, this form represents conscience and the metaphorical presence of an angel (Fereshta) rather than a literal religious figure. It embodies the invisible ethical force accompanying every human life.

Surrounding the central figure, serpents, roots, stars, celestial space, and organic structures weave together a symbolic ecosystem where visible and invisible realities remain inseparable. The serpents do not function solely as symbols of danger. They represent the dynamic forces, contradictions, desires, and ethical choices that continually shape human existence.

Rather than offering a fixed narrative, the composition invites viewers to contemplate life as an interconnected field where body, nature, conscience, and the cosmos evolve together.

Artist’s Statement

Throughout this series, I have been searching for the invisible structures that connect human existence with the universe.

In this painting, I wanted to express the idea that the cosmos is not only above us but also within us. The Earth placed inside the body symbolises that our consciousness is inseparable from the living planet and its continuous cycles of transformation.

The luminous winged figure above the human form represents one of the most important symbols in my visual language. Although inspired by the concept of an angel in Islamic tradition, it is not intended as a religious illustration. Instead, it symbolises conscience, moral awareness, and the silent ethical presence that accompanies every human being. Its light reminds us that the deepest transformation begins within.

The serpents surrounding the figure reflect another recurring theme in my work. They embody life’s opposing forces, desires, fears, temptations, and possibilities. Together with flowers, roots, stars, and celestial space, they create a symbolic landscape where every element participates in the same living process.

For me, the mystery of life exists not in isolated objects or individuals but in the invisible relationships that connect humanity, morality, nature, and the cosmos.
