Searching for the Missed Mystery of Life XII: Networks of Becoming is a monumental triptych that investigates the invisible structures connecting human consciousness, ecological systems, memory, and cosmic existence. Created in 2021, the work expands Abu Naser Robii’s long-term symbolic language into an immersive visual field where every element exists in continuous dialogue with every other.

Although divided into three individual canvas panels, the composition functions as a single interconnected organism. Branching structures flow seamlessly across panel boundaries, dissolving conventional ideas of separation and emphasizing continuity rather than fragmentation.

Throughout the painting, human figures emerge in different colours, scales, and states of transformation. Some appear rooted within luminous clouds, others rise from the earth, while others drift quietly through cosmic darkness. These figures do not represent identifiable individuals; they embody changing conditions of consciousness, growth, memory, vulnerability, and becoming.

Recurring symbols—including roots, seeds, flowering forms, stars, cloud-like organisms, celestial bodies, and branching networks—create a symbolic ecology in which biological, psychological, and cosmological processes mirror one another. The painting deliberately resists hierarchical thinking. Instead, humanity, plants, microorganisms, celestial space, and unseen energies coexist within a shared living system.

The deep black background does not signify emptiness. Rather, it functions as an infinite field from which all forms emerge and into which they continually return. Within this expansive space, every symbol remains connected through subtle linear pathways that resemble neural networks, fungal mycelium, river systems, root structures, and constellations simultaneously.

Rather than illustrating a narrative, the triptych proposes a philosophical model of existence based on interdependence, transformation, and continuous emergence.

Artist’s Note

I have never thought of these three panels as separate paintings.

They were conceived together and gradually developed through continuous drawing and painting across the entire composition. As I worked, different figures, plants, roots, stars, and organic forms appeared naturally, connecting themselves to one another.

Many of these symbols have accompanied my practice for years. They do not carry fixed meanings. Instead, they act as living signs that continue to evolve each time they reappear.

I am interested in the possibility that the structures we observe in roots, rivers, neural systems, constellations, and human relationships may all reflect different expressions of the same universal order.

This painting remains part of that ongoing search.

Curatorial Note

This triptych marks a significant development within Abu Naser Robii’s Searching for the Missed Mystery of Life series. Here, symbolic representation evolves into an integrated cosmological system where individual motifs no longer function independently but participate in an interconnected visual ecology.

The work rejects linear storytelling in favour of relational thinking. Human consciousness is presented not as the centre of existence but as one dynamic element within a broader network linking ecological, biological, and cosmic processes. The triptych format reinforces this philosophy by allowing multiple visual events to unfold simultaneously while remaining structurally interdependent.

Rather than presenting answers, the painting encourages viewers to navigate an open symbolic landscape in which meaning emerges through relationships rather than isolated images.

This long-term interdisciplinary project explores invisible relationships connecting human existence with nature, memory, time, morality, mythology, and the cosmos. Through painting, drawing, printmaking, and performance, the series develops a symbolic visual language that investigates interconnectedness as a fundamental condition of life.

Repeated motifs—including roots, seeds, birds, celestial bodies, trees, flowing networks, and human figures—form an evolving visual vocabulary through which philosophical inquiry becomes a continuous artistic practice.
