This painting was created from one such memory. While sitting in my apartment in Dhaka during a quiet afternoon in 2015, I found myself returning to a monsoon morning from my childhood, sitting in a small boat on the open wetlands and watching the sun slowly rise above the water.

I was not trying to recreate the exact landscape. Instead, I wanted to paint the silence, the light, and the feeling of being surrounded by endless water before the day fully began.

For me, this work is less about a place than about the enduring presence of memory.

Memory of a Monsoon Sunrise is a contemplative watercolour inspired by the artist’s memory of watching the sunrise from a small boat drifting across the flooded wetlands of rural Bangladesh during the monsoon season.

Painted in Dhaka during a quiet afternoon in 2015, the work was not created from direct observation but from a deeply remembered experience. The expansive water surface, silhouetted boat, distant horizon, and soft golden light merge into a composition that conveys stillness rather than spectacle.

Using restrained colour and transparent washes, the painting captures the atmosphere of early morning when light gradually dissolves darkness, and the landscape awakens almost silently. The boat becomes more than a vessel; it is a metaphor for memory itself, carrying fragments of lived experience across time.
